Methodology: how website and social media presence is reviewed

Prototype v1 ยท scoring is a simple average and not yet validated.

What we record

For each listed company, on a stated date: website availability, HTTPS, mobile friendliness, footer year and investor relations section; official LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube presence with follower counts, recent posts and engagement where visible; and LinkedIn company size. Each record keeps its review date and a link to the page that was reviewed.

How a page is judged official

Pages are recorded after a manual review. Where a page or account could not be confirmed as official it is marked unverified or not found, and unverified follower counts are labelled. Nothing is guessed.

Presence Radar and the overall score

One axis per scored channel (website, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube). Each axis is a 0 to 10 score from the manual review. A channel with no score is shown as n/a and is not drawn as zero. The overall score is the simple average of the channel scores that exist, with equal weights, and is calculated only when at least three channels have a score. Otherwise the radar and lists show "Insufficient data" and the separate channel scores are still shown. Weights are a draft and will change as the method is validated.

The fill colour follows the overall score: green for 7 and above (higher observable activity), amber for 4 to under 7 (moderate), red under 4 (limited). The colour describes how much online activity was observed. It is not a statement about the company's quality, honesty or prospects.

Known manipulation risks

Follower counts can be purchased, posts can be scheduled or automated, and a polished website is easy to build. Scores are therefore shown with their inputs and are never used to label a company.

Changes over time

Growth figures (for example followers up 35% or 10x) are shown only when at least two dated observations exist at least 30 days apart. The exact dates and values are displayed. If only one observation exists, nothing is shown.

Ownership calculator

Shown only when shares outstanding and a price are both recorded. It converts between a percentage, a number of shares and an amount. It is an illustration, not a quote.

What it does not measure

Legitimacy, financial health or investment potential. Some sound businesses are quiet online.

Missing data and indexing

Missing information is shown as not found or not captured. Widgets without verified data are hidden. A company page is offered to search engines only when its website and at least one social channel were found, so thin pages are not published for indexing.
